Release: New Grant Programs Offer Targeted Funding for Food Sovereignty and Local Processing
Washington, DC, May 10, 2023 – Today, a diverse group of taxpayer, agriculture, and environmental organizations held a press conference at the National Press Club to urge Congressional leaders to reject attempts to increase reference prices for covered commodity crops as Congress debates the farm bill. The organizations participating in the press conference included the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC), Environmental Working Group (EWG), Rural Coalition, FreedomWorks, National Taxpayers Union, Taxpayers Protection Alliance, Taxpayers for Common Sense, R-Street, and Farm Action.

Animals That Hibernate: Pictures & Facts – What Animals Hibernate?
Examples of animals that hibernate include rodents such as the Alpine marmot, Arctic ground squirrel, eastern chipmunk, and groundhog; bats such as the big brown bat, gray bat and whiskered bat; and other mammals including the brown bear, black bear, and short-beaked echidna.
Non-mammalian animals that enter a state of dormancy similar to hibernation include the common box turtle, common garter snake and wood frog.

The authors model historic and current distributions of grassland and heathland plants using both macro- and microclimate data. While macroclimate models predict the need for major range shifts (14 km median), microclimate models predict much smaller shifts that more closely match observed patterns.

Parrots Make Video Calls – New Study Finds Birds Enjoy Online Chats
A new study has found that parrots can benefit from making video calls to one another. In the three-month study, the birds were able to initiate calls and select which of their friends they could chat to.
The research may solve problems of pet parrots showing signs of loneliness and boredom.
