An ant, like all insects, has six legs. This is the same for all ant species, from the common black ant to the fearsome bullet ant. Whether an ant is a worker, a queen, or a drone, it will have six legs, all of which are attached to the thorax, the middle section of an ant’s three-part body.
On this page, you’ll find out more about an ant’s body; the different types of ant (queen, worker, and drone) and their roles in a colony; the ant life cycle; and meet interesting ant species, including the aforementioned bullet ant.

Last year was the fifth-warmest ever recorded in planetary history, scientists announced on Tuesday. The data reflects a wider warming trend driven by emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, with the past eight years being the warmest on record, and 2016 the hottest yet.
The record heat is hitting some parts of the globe harder than others. This past summer was the hottest ever recorded in Europe, where a series of punishing heat waves claimed more than 20,000 lives. Prolonged heat waves also swept through parts of Pakistan, northern India, and central and eastern China.
“2022 was yet another year of climate extremes across Europe and globally,” said Samantha Burgess, deputy director of the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, which announced the findings. “These events highlight that we are already experiencing the devastating consequences of our warming world.”…

The mountain lion is a wild cat native to the Americas. The species goes by several other names, including puma and cougar, and is the second-largest member of the cat family found in North America (the largest is the Jaguar, which is exceedingly rare north of Mexico).

Mountain lions are usually found in unpopulated areas far from human habitation. P-22’s arrival at Griffith Park in 2012 therefore caused much excitement among Californian wildlife lovers, and led to the cat achieving celebrity status, …
