Release: NSAC Welcomes Further Investments in Local Meat Processors Markets

Washington, DC, September 20th, 2024 – Yesterday, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced further projects from the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program.  The investments were targeted at small to midsize operations with an emphasis on multispecies, value added, fee for service, and geographically isolated meat processing facilities.

“Investments in these operations are precisely what is needed to both provide sustainable slaughtering or processing volumes for processors and expand reasonably priced processing options for small and very small farmers and ranchers who raise a variety of livestock and poultry,” said Connor Kippe, NSAC policy specialist. “While some of the previous rounds of investments have had many projects focused on single species, this most recent series

Release: NSAC Welcomes FDA’s Risk Based Approach to the Final Rule on Pre-Harvest Agricultural Water

 Work Remains to Fully Support Farmers in Compliance

Washington, DC, May 3, 2024 – Yesterday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the Final Rule on Pre-Harvest Agricultural Water, which finalizes a series of updates to Subpart E of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.  This is one of the remaining components of the 2015 Produce Safety Rule and has been much anticipated by agricultural and public health communities. Release: NSAC Welcomes Farm Bill Extension, Urges Lawmakers to Pass the Next Farm Bill in Early 2024 

Washington, DC, November 16, 2023 – The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) celebrates the passage of an extension to the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (the Farm Bill, which had expired on September 30) until September 2024. The Senate’s passage yesterday of the House continuing resolution means the government will avoid a shutdown and lawmakers will have time to develop a comprehensive five-year farm bill. President Biden is expected to sign the extension, which is included in the continuing resolution to fund the government, this week.
